Happy Wednesday! Thank you to everyone who attended SMARTY’s last event: “So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur”- What an incredible panel of speakers and venue! Being a community that supports entrepreneurial endeavors, I felt it was very fitting to pay tribute to a true ENTREPRENEUR, visionary and world changer- Steve Jobs.
During a Stanford commencement speech in 2005, Jobs emphasized- “You’ve got to find what you love.” Ironically, this was the common thread discussed among all three of our savvy panelists during last month’s event…clearly Jobs was on to something. So cheers to all the World-Changers reading this newsletter for finding your divine creativity and building a business around what you love. Info on our upcoming SMARTY event, featuring a local business owner whose innovations have been featured in the WSJ, Entrepreneur Magazine, Forbes, Fox News and countless other media mentions, coming soon!

So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur?
The idea of being your own boss and building wealth around something you love is a compelling force toward the pursuit of entrepreneurship.
But where does it all begin? You’ve got a great idea…so now what? How does one take an idea from the beginning stages of innovation to successful implementation?
Often times the best ideas are the ones we find a million excuses not to pursue...
Well, not this time around. Elise & I are very excited to announce our upcoming SMARTY SD Master Event:
“So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur?” September 22, 2011 at Symbolic Motor Company in La Jolla.
Join us as we get intimate with three local entrepreneurs and find out their “Secret Sauce” to success. Translation: their ability to successfully turn an idea, into a lucrative business.

Brand YOU
Happy Friday SMARTY SD!
The 4th of July has always been a favorite holiday of mine. While watching the mesmerizing display of fireworks this past Sunday evening, I started thinking about the true meaning of “freedom” as it relates to life, business and fulfilling my dreams and goals in life.
From a business standpoint, creating a life free of the monotonous routines that often accompany being an employee and most notably, creating financial success without the constraints of being in a corporate environment, exemplify my definition of “freedom” However, most importantly, dedicating countless hours, energy and time into an entrepreneurial career that I thoroughly enjoy is what makes me feel the most liberated.
The freedom to call your own shots and be your own boss begins with action. Successful businesses all start with the one simple ingredient: a seed of an idea. The challenging part is growing that seed into fruition. That’s why Elise and I are very excited to announce our upcoming SMARTY SD event!
A key driver to one’s business is personal branding. Whether you are an entrepreneur or an entrepreneurial minded-employee, we are all the CEO of our own personal brand. Elise and I are preparing for our next Master Event, dedicated to “Brand YOU” trust us ladies…you will not want to miss this one. Details to follow soon…

From Harvard MBA to Harvard Cookie Girl
Happy June SMARTY SD!
In lieu of our upcoming SMART conversation on June 1th featuring Harvard Cookie Girl, Bibi Kasrai, I cannot help but think of what I am currently doing to make an impact in our community and in turn, the legacy that I will be remembered by.
Bibi’s business takes an innovative approach to battling the rising epidemic of diabetes amongst our country’s youth by offering afterschool enrichment programs dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of healthy eating and proper nutrition to elementary school students around San Diego County. This Harvard MBA graduate has pioneered a new path, making cooking enjoyable for children while positively impacting the lives of hundreds of minds and bodies each and every day AND she will be remembered for doing just that. The best part of all is that she has been able to take her passion and turn it into a successful business. Her willingness to give to those around her has come back to her ten-fold.
How are you positively impacting those around you? Can you create a business or grow your current business into one that allows you to contribute positively to your community and people around you?
It is amazing how much success I have seen come to those who willingly give back! As Entrepreneurs and business owners, we have an obligation not only to ourselves, but to or communities and sometimes giving back is just the ingredient we need to take us to the next level.

The Will to Succeed
Hello SMARTY SD!
This year has really been a year of major CHANGE for me in ALL aspects of my life- business, personal, relationships…you name it!
Life’s path has unexpected ups and downs. I strive to remember that everything in life happens at the right time for the right reason and its outcome is dependent upon out perception, endurance and patience.
I want to take this time to remind everyone (including myself) that EVERYTHING in life happens for a reason, and it is amazing what one can accomplish in the face of adversity. The beautiful thing about being an Entrepreneur is YOU are truly the creator of your own destiny. There is no challenge that you are not capable of overcoming.
Rise confidently to the occasion, maintain your focus and know that your dream will become a reality. Life is all a matter of perspective so consider that “challenge” as an opportunity to advance forward and remember that your own resolution to succeed starts with action!
Check out & register for our upcoming SMART conversation featuring Bibi Kasrai, owner and founder of La Jolla based Harvard Cookie Girl. Learn how this SMARTY found a way to blend her talent for business with her passion for cooking, transitioning from Harvard MBA to Harvard Cookie Girl. Check out HCG at www.HarvardCookieGirl.com

Keeping Your Focus
Good Afternoon Ladies!
Last night as I was sorting through my 7 different to-do lists, and trying to organize my planner, Outlook Calendar and iPhone calendar, I had an epiphany!!!
I realized I was dedicating hours of my time each day updating my calendars and crossing things off my to-do lists. How ironic is it that the things that are designed to SAVE me time, are actually taking up hours of my time to create, update and maintain?!
Often times we get so caught up in wanting to feel like we have everything planned and are in control that we forget to FOCUS on getting the 1 or 2 things done that are most important. I feel the pain and know how agonizing it is to put all the easy and quick to do’s that you have planned for the day aside and focus on the larger, bigger picture things that NEED to get done. BUT those larger, bigger picture things are what is going to continue to move us toward our major goals. That is where our FOCUS should be each day! What are the most important 1 or 2 things that you need to accomplish today?

Time for some Inspiration
Hey Everyone, I opened my calendar to schedule a meeting and realized we are very much on our way to summer, which means the goals I've set for my business need to be met over the course of the next two months. Therefore, I need some serious inspiration and tools on my side by next month!
What better ways to gain inspiration then attend the first Master Event for SMARTY San Diego?!
Elise and I look forward to seeing you at:
“The Power (and PROFIT) of Positive Thinking!”
Featuring: Lorna York CEO/Founder
Madison Gallery
Thursday, April 21st at 6:45pm
1020 Prospect, Suite 130 La Jolla CA
Join us this Thursday to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the art world works and how this one-woman show became a multi-zero business. Being proactive and building a business based on an unlimited belief system helped Lorna York to achieve great success.
The words we say to ourselves are extremely powerful-they can create or destroy us. Therefore, it is vitally important that we become more aware of our thought processes and reject self-limiting beliefs. With the proper mind-set and visibility, EVERYONE has the ability to achieve greatness.

Food for thought: Your thoughts are created by your belief system. Success in all areas of life- personal, work, spiritual and relationships is determined predominantly by the power of your beliefs….so think positively!
